Description

Lavender, Lavandula spp.

Lavender is a Mediterranean shrub that is highly aromatic and relaxing. Historically, lavender has been used to uplift the senses and relax the body and mind.

Lavender is renowned as a panacea herb, “a solution or remedy for all difficulties or diseases”. With the capability to influence the body inside and out, calm the mind and invoke spirit, Lavender is a helpful herb on many levels. Internally, Lavender is cleansing and immune-boosting, utilizing its antibacterial, antiviral and antiseptic qualities to help defend the body against unwanted pathogens and re-enstate balance thereafter. Externally, Lavender is soothing and aids in relieving skin irritations across the board: eczema, psoriasis, rashes, burns, cuts, bites stings, etc. It can also nourish skin and promote the growth of healthy hair via strengthening hair follicles.

Lavender is most well known, however, for its calming and relaxing qualities. It quells mental chatter, bringing peace of mind, and fosters a sense of comfort and familiarity. Lavender can be used to reduce anxiety, spasms, tremors, depression, and tension, while also helping with insomnia and restlessness. The purple flowers of Lavender are said to stimulate the pituitary gland and to activate the Ajna chakra.
