Pineapple sage, Salvia elegans.
Pineapple sage is a perennial shrub native to Mexico and Guatemala. It originally grew in the Mesoamerican pine oak forests between 6,000 and 9,000 ft. Pineapple sage has tubular red flowers and a scent to the leaves similar to pineapple. The red flowers attract butterflies and especially hummingbirds.
- The leaves and flowers can be used for the treatment of anxiety, and also for lowering of blood pressure. Pineapple sage has an antihypertensive effect and can be helpful with depression as well.
