Propolis Tincture

Propolis is no modern day miracle but a miracle as old as life itself. Bees have been building and maintaining their hives since the dawn of time with Propolis. It is an ancient, ancestral ally that reminds our own immune system that health and vitality are worth protecting and fighting for.

Propolis is known as the immune system of the hive and contains all the building blocks necessary to sustain and maintain the health of the whole hive. It is a generous gift from nature to deeply nourish and protect entire organisms and ecosystems including the one that lives inside us.

Borrow a lesson from the bees. Use what they use to fortify and strengthen their immune system and see it have a transformative ripple effect in your own body.

What is Propolis and How is it Made?

Propolis is created deep within the heart and soul of the Bee. They revere it and hold it as a sacred lifeblood. When Bees are out and about gathering pollen, they will stop and gather medicinal resins and saps from plants and trees. They then bring back the resin to their hives and mix it with their saliva and beeswax to create what we call Propolis.

Bees use Propolis as a natural antibiotic and shield against microbial pathogens they may threaten the hive. Propolis contains over 500 bioactive molecules which have antibacterial, anti- fungal, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, anticancer and antioxidant properties. Propolis is distributed throughout the hive and used to protect and defend the hives immunity, to seal cracks in the hive and smooth its walls, and to maintain its temperature and humidity.

Here at the Farmacy we have been blessed to work alongside the Bees. We often use honey made here at the farm for our products which we then take great pride in sharing with you. Our Propolis tincture was made with a deep respect for the hives and hard work of the Bees. We work in alignment with the forces of life and as a result we bring our lives back into balance with nature. This in turn supports a cohesive lifestyle which then finds its way into our medicine cabinets.

How to Use Propolis

The first thing in knowing how to use Propolis lies in knowing when you need it. If your immune system feels a bit weakened and you feel like it needs a bit of fortifying then take a look around your natural environment. All of nature is here to support and reflect back to us the valuable notion that we are not alone. Know that you are fully supported within nature. Recognizing that we can use what is mirrored back to us in nature to create wholeness is a path to healing and unity with all of life. This is the true medicine for our collective healing.

Recently a community member called into the Farmacy asking for help with a sore throat and viral infection. Propolis was the first to speak out as a helper. She reported that the Propolis worked to soothe her sore throat, offering a type of numbing effect on the pain. Propolis kept her immune system strong and supported as she naturally worked through the infection. I personally like to keep Propolis tincture in my home apothecary to aid in boosting and protecting my family’s immune systems during cold and flu season. I like to think of my family as a hive system (queen bee speaking here) and we use Propolis much in the same way a Bee family would use it.

Here's some potential benefits you can look forward to when you use Propolis tincture:

  • Natural antibacterial and antiviral action on the immune system

  • Total body support as it works to counteract the effects of inflammation

  • Mix with water as a mouthwash to protect against plaque and bacteria associated with periodontitis or when you have mouth sores

  •  Deep cellular immunity activation

  • Aligning body systems to work together cohesively

How to use Propolis:

Propolis is best used when your immune system needs fortification and support. We suggest 10-15 drops or as needed for acute conditions. My favorite way to take it is a few drops under the tongue. Notice any sensations you have in your mouth or in your throat as you swallow. Take a mental note of how it smells, how it tastes, and how you feel before and after taking it. You will get to know any remedy when you spend time with it in this way. This is how you become intimate with nature and learn to how to be confident in how it supports you.

Note of caution:
Propolis is a powerful and potent byproduct of hive life. Some propolis products might also contain bee byproducts so use propolis with caution if you are allergic to bee products.

If you have a bleeding disorder, do not take propolis. Taking propolis might increase the risk of bleeding during and after surgery. Stop taking propolis 2 weeks before surgery.

Dose: 3-15 single drops once per day or as needed
